A LIL INTRO

Over a decade of experience in Higher Education, specifically in the disability sector.
Seeking to obtain meaningful, hands-on experience and develop skills to launch a new career in tech.
Passionate about diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
Excited to expand current skillset and apply diverse transferable skills in a new industry.

Why should you give me a chance?

Not to toot my own horn, but...
I have a strong work ethic, I am reliable, dependable and dedicated.
I am most happy when I am working.
I like to learn new things and exercise my brain.
I am resilient and quick to adjust to setbacks and challenges.
- underfunding, redundancies, Covid-19, life! Bring it on!

I know the competition is fierce and I am no spring chicken, but this only gives me further impetus to expand my skillset and step out of my comfort zone.
I am a facilitator of learning and thoroughly enjoy it. I am a social being and like sharing experience with others.
Being in the Education sector, research is practically my bread and butter and I am used to belonging to communities of practice, where problems are solved and best practice is shared.

I don't have experience in the
tech industry, but...

Please have a look at my résumé, which details my work experience and educational background.
My secondary education was in Computer Science, however, a side step took me on a journey into Nursing, Forensic & Crime Scene Science and lastly Education.
Although technology has always been of personal interest, and I have had a close relationship with it thoroughout my career, I long for the days when I was "making stuff".
As an end user, I have often despaired and attempted to come up with my own solutions, frequently in my own time, outside my working hours.
Life often gets in the way of our goals, but I am now in a position where I am able to dedicate more time to broadening my skillset.
Through my own initiative I have signed up for courses, I have met people from the industry who have provided priceless guidance.
I recognise my own limitations and I am not afraid to ask questions and seek help. However, I am conscious that there's only so much one can do without getting their hands dirty.
I need someone who can see past my lack of experience in this industry, and recognises my commitment and willingness to learn.
I am so much more than my résumé. 😉
